Demographics The LOCATE: Child Care search service collects data on the supply, demand and cost of child care in each region and disseminates that data in an annual Child Care Demographic report for each county. This data, along with information collected locally by APPLES Professional Development staff is used to assess regional needs and plan our services. Child Care Statistics and Data on Children, Families, and Child Care, collected uniformly from Allegany, Garrett and Washington Counties, is the foundation of our annual assessments and service plans. Child Care Demographics 2010 includes data on population, income, workforce participation, and child care in each Western Maryland county. Trends in Child Care 2010 is a summary of demand, supply, and cost of Maryland child care from 2003 to 2012.  |

History APPLES for Children, Inc. (the Alliance for Parent, Provider and Local Employer Solutions) began as the Western Maryland Child Care Resource Center (WMCCRC) in 1991, serving Washington, Allegany and Garrett Counties. The WMCCRC, managed by Head Start of Washington County, was one of three pilot child care resource centers across Maryland. Today, all Maryland jurisdictions are served by one of 12 child care resource centers. The 12 resource centers are grantees of the Maryland Child Care Resource Network (MCCRN), administered by Maryland Family Network, with funds from Maryland State Department of Education. The MCCRN was re-accredited by the National Association for Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies in 2008, and awarded its Quality Assurance Seal for parent services. In 2002, APPLES for Children became an independent, not-for-profit agency, when Head Start of Washington County began offering full day, full year services for children (recognized as a conflict of interest by the MCCRN). Fanny Crawford, a member of the resource center staff since its inception, became APPLES for Children’s Executive Director. |
